Run for the FallenRun for the Fallenhttp://www.runforthefallenms.com/runforthefallen/2011-08-22T22:40:55ZSquarespaceA Huge Success!http://www.runforthefallenms.com/runforthefallen/2011/8/22/a-huge-success.htmlMississippi's Run for the Fallen2011-08-22T22:29:32Z2011-08-22T22:29:32ZMississippi's Run for the Fallen was an enormous success!  Over 300 people showed up to display their support for our soldiers and their families.  Opening comments were followed by a prayer from Danny Miller.  Kim McCoy told the crowd what made her feel compelled to organize the event.  The JROTC from Brandon High School joined members of the Brandon High School Band for a patriotic ceremony that none will forget.  As the first horn blew, the emotion was overwhelming to see tons of people take off up the hill while patriotic tunes blasted from the speakers.  

Many achieved their goals.  Some runners said that it was the easiest run they have ever done, and some walkers said that they went further than ever.  Maybe that was because they were doing it all for someone else. We were all so privileged to be a part of that great day.  Over $3500 was raised and Mississippians logged 646 miles. Mississippi's Run for the Fallen will be back in 2012.  Make sure you are a part of it!

We are asking everyone planning to attend to register online. We will start the opening ceremony at 8:00.  Please make plans to be there and park in time to be a part of the opening ceremony.  The traffic and parking will be directed and may be a little congested, so please plan accordingly.  We will have the closing comments following the kids' run.  It may be difficult to leave before the closing comments as the lanes will be blocked until the children are done running.  We expect the closing comments to be around 9:30. Door prizes will be handed out at the closing ceremony.

We suggest that you bring a chair if you would like to sit during any part of the day.  We will have water and other drinks on hand, but feel free to bring your own.

T-shirts benefiting the Wounded Warrior will be on sale for $20.  You can bring cash or checks made out to the Wounded Warrior Project.  We will have limited numbers of shirts, but they can also be ordered at the event.

The run will be on the Brandon High School property.  We will have a loop set up that will be one mile that the adults can choose how far they run or walk by how many laps they choose to do.  Because of time constraints the maximum will be 3 laps.  The kids' run will be one lap.  Remember that there will be no timing or awards, so bring a stopwatch if you would like to track your times.

Since 2008 Americans have been organizing runs on behalf of our fallen soldiers.  Mississippi is now included in the states that organize the runs.  On August 20th we will gather to show our support for all of our fallen service men and women as well as show support for those that are still deployed.  Come join us for a day of recognition and remembrance.  There is absolutely no cost for participating and any funds generated from the event will be given graciously to organizations that help families and soldiers that have been affected by a death or injury.

No matter if you are a runner, walker, youth, adult, or senior, we ask that you come show our support.  Help us to spread the word and make Mississippi's Run for the Fallen a highly successful event.  This one mile course will be set up at Brandon High School in Brandon, Mississippi on August 20th, 2011.  Adults can choose to run 1, 2, or three miles.  The kids run will be one mile.  Make sure you register online to be a part of the event!

Schedule of the Event:

7:30 AM - Registration

8:00 AM - The National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance followed by announcements.

8:15 AM - The Mississippi Run for the Fallen will begin!

9:00 AM - The one mile fun run for the youth will begin.

9:30 AM - Closing Statements
